OUR POOR LITTLE GUY

Dylan is home and convalescing.  Back in 2008, Dylan had a herniated disc in his lower back and had to have a laminectomy.  We hoped that all would be well for the remainder of a long doggie life.  But, early last week we noticed him sleeping in the back of the house, rather than wanting to be with us, as was normal.  Then we heard him crying out when he barked or tried to maneuver a small step, like out to the backyard.  He couldn't lift his head without pain and we knew he was in trouble.

After a week of pain killers and prednisone, trying to treat the problem medically first, and then, reluctantly accepting that another surgery was his only hope, he is now back home with us, convalescing.  He looks like he's been hit by a truck, with his eyes bloodshot and partially covered, a shaved back where a mylogram was performed and a sutured chest where he was cut open and repaired.  At least he's pain-free and on his way to recovery.

The surgeon was not sure what to expect going in, but assured us that, after seeing the calcium build up and the herniation, Dylan's problem was not caused by any single event, but was a build up over time and could not have been alleviated in any other way than by this surgery.  At least we have peace of mind that this was the only way to buy Dylan the relief of his pain, but it has been heartbreaking to see him suffer and not understand all that has happened to him.  As with all animals, I guess, he has been brave and accepting.

We're so glad to have him home, relaxed and pain-free.

EASTER SUNDAY

The Easter Bunny left Sofia a basket, which she readily found and searched through with us, so we could all see what he brought . . .

It was a pretty enough day to do our egg dying outside . . .

And there they all are . . .

Sofia used her outside chalk to draw us lots of decorative pictures, with help from the grown-ups . . .
Sofia and Papa selected our prettiest eggs to add to the table's centerpiece . . .
Everyone contributed goodies to our feast.  Mom bought the pork roast, Elizabeth brought champagne, Meredith and Clyde brought wine and . . .
Meredith made this gorgeous, yummy fennel, cheese and apple salad . . .
At the end of a happy day, Sofia took a bath and shared a story with Papa . . .
A lovely day, everyone, thanks for spending it with us.

SOFIA and JAKE RUN THE ZOO ZOOM

It was a beautiful morning and a lovely spring setting for Sofia and Jake's first "competitive" run . . .

Sofia, Jake, Meg, Meredith and Clyde rode to the park on their bikes . . .
Sofia and Jake take a little stroll to loosen up before running . . .
Suited up and ready to go . . .

 Getting last minute encouragement . . .

Sorry to say that, due to the mob of parents involved in the kid's run, I wasn't able to get pictures of the run itself (watch Meredith's blog for those).  But, here are proud Sofia and Jake showing off their medals to their Mummies post run . . .
All kids were #1 (as it should be).
Good friends celebrating doing fun things together . . .
Life doesn't get any cuter or sweeter than this.  Good job Sofia and Jake!  Thanks for letting us join you in the fun.

DUCKS IN THE POOL

Very early this spring we had a pair of ducks in the pool.  Then, for a few days, we had only a female duck in the pool.  Then, guess what happened?  The cutest dozen ducklings we'd ever seen.  They only stayed two days and then their mommy took them on their way.  The ducks tend to "fowl" the water, and my guess is that the water in the creek that runs right behind our house is probably better for the ducklings, so we're glad they left.  But, boy were they adorable.

ICE SKATING, AIR HOCKEY AND WAITING FOR MUMMY

Sofia's Daddy is on spring break and was able to join us at the ice rink on Tuesday. . .
While there, he discovered his favorite childhood game, Air Hockey.  Cool!  Brought out the kid in him . . .

Shoes on, tote full of stuffed animal friends, Sofia is ready and waiting for her Mummy to pick her up after spending a day with Papa and Geema . . .
How could we not be head-over-heels in love with this beautiful child?
