PASSING THE TIME OF DAY

One of the challenges for us as grandparents is filling our time with Sofia. A 19-month-old, even though smart and curious, has a short attention span. Playing a game, reading a book, sharing small chores, and such, take limited amounts of time. Playing on her own fills only part of Sofia's days with us.
Going for a wagon walk is good for 20 to 30 minutes.
Stroller walks can take as much as an hour-and-a-half, depending on where we go, like to the yogurt shop and back via the creek. Check out the casual rider.
I went on-line this morning to see if someone more clever than I am had some good ideas to share. I typed in "things to do with toddlers", and found lots of replies. And, no, none of them suggested things like hiding from them or tying them to a chair. One great idea was to fill a container with small, safe household items and set it out for play. I took out my biggest plastic bowl, put in miscellaneous items, set the top loosely on and put it in the middle of the family room rug. The discovery and play was good for lots of smiles and filled a full 20 minutes of our time. I'm heading back to that web site!
