SOFIA'S MONTESSORI FIELD TRIP

We had our first chaperoning experience as grandparents on a Halloween  field trip with Sofia and her Montessori class.  It was to the same pumpkin patch that we had visited with Sofia and her Mummy and Daddy earlier in the month, but the experience had a whole different flavor this time.

Waiting for the class to gather and the teachers to get all the passes needed . . .
Wrist bands on and ready to go.  But, while waiting for others, we started hearing the morning chant, "where is Benny?"
Next we boarded the train and continued hearing "where is Benny?" We were able to locate Benny further up in the train.

Rode a hay truck out to the pumpkins, Sofia picked a really cute one suitable for her bedroom, and we continued to hear "where is Benny".  He was way away, but the chant was getting a bit old, so we trudged through the patch to catch up with Benny, where Sofia promptly became too shy to say "hi", so I said, "Hi, Benny", to which adorable Benny replied "hi" to this total stranger.  We exchanged a few friendly words with Benny's Dad, Paul, explaining that Sofia wanted to say "hi" to Benny, so that he wouldn't think we were weirdos stalking his son.  Paul said he knew that Benny and Sofia are good friends at school.
On our way to our next planned event, Papa stopped at the cookie shack.  When we passed Benny and his Dad, they asked where we got the yummy looking cookies and the next time we saw Benny and Dad, they had a familiar white bag in hand.
By the time we got to the ever popular slides, Sofia and Benny were happily hanging out together and so were Papa, Paul and I . . .

After the pig races, petting zoo and general playground play, Benny, Paul, Sofia, Papa and Geema all had a lovely lunch together under the trees and then headed home.
Grandparenting doesn't get any better than this.
